Mmmmmm… cheesesteak…
The iconic Philly cheesesteak has a rich history. Legend has it that Pat and Harry Olivieri first invented the cheesesteak in the 1930s as a way to add some variety to their hot dog stand offerings. Their cheesesteak soon became so popular that the Olivieris stopped making hot dogs and opened up a new restaurant focusing exclusively on the cheesesteak. That restaurant still flourishes today as Pat’s King of Steaks.
Whether you prefer Pat’s or Geno’s, Tony Luke’s or Campo’s, Jim’s or Dalessandro’s, one thing we can all agree on is that the Philly cheesesteak is the most perfect food ever created. It’s as if the combination of Amoroso hoagie roll, chopped steak, and cheese whiz was touched by God himself to produce the medley of deliciousness that has fueled Philadelphia for generations.
No food is as iconic and as delicious as the Philly cheese steak. Chicago deep dish pizza, New Orleans po’boys and Baltimore crab cakes can all eat their hearts out. The Philly cheesesteak will forever reign supreme. We’ll take ours whiz wit’.
